The mission of the March of Dimes is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality. Braxton Hicks contractions can be described as a tightening in the abdomen that comes and goes. You may get these contractions when you’re tired, dehydrated, or on your feet too much. Some people are under the impression that contractions should never appear in writing, but this belief is mistaken.
This little folding activity is simple, but it is a powerful demonstration to what is actually happening with contractions. For example, if the previous contraction started at 10:03:30 and this contraction started at 10:13:30, then your contractions are exactly 10 minutes apart.
By doing this, they combine two words together in order to speak faster and more fluently. In between contractions, the uterus will relax and everything in the abdomen will feel soft again. Feeding starts the releases of Oxytocin hormone which causes contractions and helps the uterus maintain firmness.
The contractions are pushing your baby down and opening the entrance to your womb (the cervix), ready for your baby to go through. With real contractions, I knew without having to feel if my belly was tight and contracting, partly because of the more intense pain and partly because I could feel it way stronger.
When you have a second one, make note of how much time has passed in between contractions. When you call your health care provider or hospital, you will need to give information about the duration and frequency of your contractions and about how long this has been the pattern.
